....orange clouds, gray day

Without a kiss,
lovers let go of each other’s arms
to go their own separate way.
The old man on the bench
shakes his head in total dismay.

Under the fallen leaves
squirrels hide the nuts
from the miscommunication trees,

seabirds eating white bread.

Empty promises dissolve into
shallow waters.
Empty words fly and fall into
shallow graves.
Minutes turn into hours,
hours into long, long years.

Lovers come back to the
neighborhood of regrets,
hair turned gray.
The old man's teeth rattles
when he chuckles at the
cycles of events.
Orange clouds, icy rains,
winter soon becomes dominant.

There are hints of snow,
in every Autumn day break.

Politicians outraged ,
move into closed sessions
and they lecture and they talk
and they argue and pass resolutions on

loneliness.
Shrinks, dust off their couches
and assume their positions....

Midnight bars end up into dawns,
lost hopes sink into empty wine glasses.
Ladies of the night, seeking love,
find themselves cuddling up with the
homeless in their frozen
cardboard mattresses.
Fallen squirrels seek directions
from freshly fallen snow....

Old ladies gathering fruits from
ancient patience trees, they drink
Jasmine tea, when they take
their long, long break.
