translated from Italian by:

Don’t leave me alone
with the moon’s corpse.

Gina Labriola

The Moon is Dead

Don’t leave me alone
with the moon’s corpse.

We murdered it togheter,
two robbers in the night,
stretched it out motionless
so we could hide
between its counterpanes of lights

so our bodies would shine
for ourselves alone.

Non that love is dead,
i cannot all by myself drag
this big body
no longer of warer or lights or words,
but heavy with grayish sand
like a drowned man.

Don’t leave me alone
with this corpse of love.

(translated from the Italian by Ruth Feldman)

Instant

Instant,
i close you in my fist,
a quivering butterfly
wrenched from the flight of being.
Instant
you can neither live
nor die
except in dreams.

Instant,
Don’t leave on my palm
your rainbow dust
that could rob
your wings’ transparence
of the power to take off again!

(From "Hive of mirrors" Translated from the Italian by Ruth Feldman)
